Luminex Offline Editor

To start this new year right, Luminex has released its new Offline Editor software. Available for Windows and Mac, it allows you to configurate your networks offline, without the need to access your equipment.

The software can be downloaded for free on Luminex website.

Isn't preparing everything in advance one of the key to save time and be more efficient during an event ? That's exactly what the Offline Editor is about. You can create profiles for every type of Luminex network switches and Ethernet/DMX converters and organize them per project. Once you're out on the field, you just have to plug your devices and load their profiles.

Profiles can contain all the settings usually available in the devices web interface. With GigaCores, you can save their IP settings, their Groups (V-LANs), the configuration of each port, their password...

Configuration des switchs

The converters profiles also contain their IP settings, ports configuration and even DMX merging policies like HTP/LTP. You can also set the DMX framerate and functions such as softpatching or DMX trigger.

Quick reminder, the DMX trigger offers the ability to swap from one control source to another, using a specific DMX channel as a trigger. Softpatch is a function that gives you the ability to control the parameters of a machine by two different sources. For instance, with a multi-element moving light, you can control the Pan, Tilt and Dimmer with a classic lighting console while the actuals LEDs are controlled by a media server. Luminex has revamp its approach of softpatching with the concept of fixture for a bloc of parameters. For example you can quickly patch blocs of parameters dedicated to controls and assigned them to a specific source.

Not to worry, every parameter in the software has an helper to remind or explain their purpose. The software interface is quite clear and graphically pleasant, but other little tips make setting up your network easier.

The ports of your network switches are almost always assigned the same way ? You can use global settings to avoid having the configure the same things again and again. Some of your ports have the same configuration ? Just select your ports and copy the configuration of your original port. You want to apply the same parameter to 12 different lines ? Simply select all these lines and applying the parameter once. You've already made a profile similar to the one you wish to create ? Duplicate this profile and just change what you need.

To quickly get your head around the software, Luminex has posted a serie of small video tutorials :

1. Application Menus

2. GigaCore Profile

3. Copy a profile

4. Ethernet/DMX Profile

5. Create a softpatch

6. Import a profile
