The festival, which has known an attendance record this year, has opened this year its new Arena Club, a stage with an eco-friendly design made with wood pallets. Novelty was in charge of the enlightment of this new place with a full kit of SGM lights.
Thanks to its partnership with SGM, almost 300 SGM lights have enhanced this new stage : 12 G-Spot combined with 34 G-1 Beam moving heads, 13 wash/strobe Q-7 and 130 SixPack. The site will receive several DJ sets whose the Silent Disco Party : a Dutch concept where the festivalgoers are dancing equipped by a wireless audio headset, in a silent place. Frédéric Fayard alias Aldo was in charge to enlight this innovative stage. The light designer answered to our questions.
What was the concept of the Light Designer for this new stage in Solidays ?
« The idea was to enhance the scenography made with pallets. Thus, we had to be as subtle as possible and also to think about a system able to enliven a DJ set.»
Why did you choose the SGM products ?
« SGM products combine performance and IP-65 rating. It was exactly what we needed. »
Which difficulties have you met during this installation ? How the SGM products have been useful ?
« We had to respect the scenography and the weight constraints. In this way, G-1 had a leading role, the Q-7 were also useful because these light fixtures have very interesting weight/power ratio.»
What was the role of the G-Spots ?
« G-Spots were used to flood the dancefloor with light from the DJ set side. Located on either side of the Booth, the fixtures alternately covered the whole dance floor and all the dancers. When the place was in strolling mode, G-Spots were highlighting the different towers in an elegant way. »
What was the role of the SixPacks ?
« The SixPacks were the core of the installation. Placed on each verticals they highlighted the design of every towers while another part highlighted every horizontal axes, which in the scenography were a link between the vertical towers. In some way, the SixPack formed on their own the scenography and since we choose a mode to control them LED by LED, they litteraly brought to life the scenery. »
What was the role of the G-1 ?
« The G-1 were the beam lights of the installation, they were here to modernize it. I was looking for a light but powerful beam, and the G-1 was perfect for this role. To be efficient, I needed a sufficient number and it was the case. Another advantage of the G-1 is its lightweight, and thus its quickness, and it is important to have a good light dynamic for some DJ sets. »
What is your favorite product and why ?
« I will speak about the Q-7,they have a double role because they were used simultaneously for a color background on the dance floor and for a powerful strobe : this is a task that the Q-7 fulfil very well. »
« Moreover, I like the G-1 because it is a smart fixture which combines IP-65, wireless DMX and it is battery operating. This is a product without competitors on the market and also, this is real beam which has nothing to envy to other light in terms of output in a traditional light kit. »
Thanks to Aldo for his time and his pictures. The high attendance for this new innovative stage leads us to think that Novelty could be back at Solidays for the 2017 edition.
